Not by Bread Alone

The sea shimmered,
under the moonlit sky.
Raucous waves rose and fell
desiring the land

Men and women
relishing the memories
of long last togetherness,
sipped the drinks of their choice
on the Beach's sand

Yesteryear damsels,
now mothers, & those playboys,
now sporting a paunch.
All discussed
life's meaning and purpose

In stupor,I uttered,
the biblical verse:'Man does not live by bread alone'.
Pouncing on me,
they asked, what then?
'He lives by love;
by passion;
by madness;'I muttered

Life has neither meaning
nor purpose.
Existence is it's meaning;
usefulness to other lives;
it's purposes
